If you just make occasional phone calls but don't need it for guaranteed 911 access, I don't see why it is worth it, especially since even with POTS there is just no guarantee it will work. It will just all depend what you need a land line for. Worst case, you get in your car and drive to a closer one. Maybe not enough for internet, but enough for a phone call. Even if the two closest ones fail, you typically can still get a weak signal from the third one. With cell towers, you are typically in range of 2 or 3, so all of them would have to power fail. You'd really need a ye olde corded phone to ensure you can make phone calls with that POTS line. There are ones with batteries, but people often forget about them and 4 years later those batteries are dead.
